Haiti - Social : Repatriation of 80 Haitian undocumented... 21/10/2013 09:47:10
The Dominican army intercepted in the province of Valverde, 80 undocumented Haitian nationals (65 men, 10 women and 5 children). Our compatriots were handed over to the Migration Office of Dajabon, who proceeded to their return to Haiti.
In addition, the Dominican National Police also intercepted 13 other Haitian illegal immigrants who were traveling to the city of Punta Cana, 205 miles east of the capital, before attempting to reach Puerto Rico. The driver who transported these people illegally, was arrested and the vehicle seized.
Last week, more than 200 Haitians illegally, in search of work and better living conditions, have been expelled from the Dominican Republic, towards Haiti.
Recall that last month, Major-General Ruben Dario Paulino Sem, Head of the Dominican Army Staff, revealed that from 16 August 2012 to September 2013, 47,700 Haitians illegally entered in the Dominican Republic, had been repatriated to Haiti, in coordination with the Dominican Ministry of Immigration, or more than double, than the previous year.
