Haiti - Social : Establishment of 6 literacy classes in the town of Dame-Marie
As part of National Social Assistance Program "Ede Pèp", Rose Anne Auguste, the Delegate Minister of Human Rights and the Fight against extreme poverty, proceeded to Dame-Marie, to the distribution of baskets of solidarity to hundreds of mothers.

This distribution took place at the Basic School of Application of Dame Marie in the presence of the Departmental Delegate of Grand Anse, Norman Wiener, the Mayor of the town, Choriste Manor, the representative of the Grand Anse, the Secretary of State for Literacy and members of the operation "Ti Manman Cheri" and of network "Ede Pèp".

About 600 mothers enrolled in the program in three schools received their voucher to access the financial allocation of "Ti Manman Chérie" via Uni-Transfer.

In her remarks for the occasion, the Minister Augustus renewed the commitment of the Administration Martelly and of Government Lamothe, to support the Haitian people in the fight against illiteracy and extreme poverty.

The Minister deplored the fact that some mothers are forced to go into debt with loan sharks to send their children to school. According to the Minister Delegate, the Government is committed to working to address this situation through these social programs, which are designed to support the poorest people.

In addition, the Minister announced the establishment of 6 literacy classes in the town of Dame-Marie for the benefit of mothers who can not read or write, a Government initiative to support education at all levels. From November 15, 2013, more than a hundred mothers will be able to integrate these literacy classes in the premises of the EFACAP of Dame-Marie. The representative of the Secretariat of State for Literacy in Grand Anse, Frantz Louissaint noted during the event, the willingness of mothers to participate in this program.

On the other hand, Rose Anne Auguste Minister stressed the multiple potential of Dame-Marie, a town whose economy is based on agriculture (cocoa, coffee, eating food, fruits and vegetables) and fishing recalled that the social assistance program "Ede Pèp" contains a component Kore peyisan" devoted to strengthening the fishing activities in coastal areas of the country.

Note that the national program "Ede Pèp" includes 16 components implemented by the Government whose 9 are executed by the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) which, under the tutelage of the Ministry of Economy and Finance is the executing agency of these social programs,
in order to contribute to the eradication of extreme poverty and lead the country on the path of progress and sustainable development.
