Haiti - Social : The objectives and innovations of the Census 2014 30/10/2013 11:19:48
Yesterday, Tuesday, Wilson Laleau, Minister of Economy and Finance, Chairman of the National Committee of the Census, proceeded at Kinam II to the launch of the 5th General Census of Population and Housing (Ve RGPH-2014), the data collected from this survey will enable the government to clarify its policy and know where to place the infrastructure necessary for the population.
"It is indispensable for a country to conducts census, in order to get an idea on how people live, their health and education situation," said Wilson Laleau on this occasion, specifying "that a census is an essential tool in any country," with estimated total cost of $26 million this census will be funded primarily by the Haitian government and supported by other international partners such as Brazil and France, this census will last 2 years and generated 15,000 to 20,000 jobs.
The primary objectives of the 5th RGPH are :
- Compile the current state of the country's population, restore its intercensal evolution and the projections of population ;
- Knowing the behavior of fertility, nuptiality, mortality and migration and their evolution intercensal ;
- Provide a statement of habitat characteristics and housing.
It is, ultimately, to :
- Provide the Government and bilateral and multilateral partners demographic and social data updated for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies, particularly the strategy against poverty, social policy and employment policy.
- Provide indicators for advocacy in favor of specific population groups such as the disabled, orphans, the elderly, etc... ;
- Establish reference frameworks and establish a sampling for the realization of the next intercensal surveys.
Innovations :
To achieve these objectives, various kinds of innovations will be introduced in the design and conduct of the census of 2014.

- A census mapping and satellite imagery
- A new and updated look on the usual themes
- New analytical themes
- A further integration of the gender perspective
- he introduction of new technologies in data collection
- Updated nomenclature
- Rapid and broad dissemination of statistical data
