Haiti - Agriculture : Compensation program to pay the debt of Petrocaribe 14/11/2013 09:33:45 This important meeting allowed participants to provide an update on the demands of the Venezuelan government regarding the export of agricultural and manufactured products from Haiti, such as the price competitiveness of products, compliance with the specification and respect of the frequency of product delivery. The compensation program of agricultural products, developed by the administration Martelly and the Lamothe government to pay their debt to Venezuela, is an opportunity for agribusiness, farmers and local agricultural cooperatives who participate to further modernize, increase their production capacity to generate income and create jobs. This program will also allow Haitian entrepreneurs to strengthen the production of the agricultural sector in the national economy and to open to the Venezuelan market, regional market and Petrocaribe economic zone. The latter is not a free-trade area, nor an area of competitiveness, says the head of government, but an area of complementarity in the area of agricultural trade. The agro-industrials, that met at the initiative of the Prime Minister, are willing to participate in the compensation program and export their products included in the list of sectors identified by Venezuela. The Head of Government is planning visit to Venezuela, during which Haitian entrepreneurs of agricultural and agro-industrial sectors will meet members of the Venezuelan private sector to explore other avenues of cooperation between the two country.
