Haiti - Politic : Helen La Lime appointed head of the new UN Special Mission to Haiti 15/10/2019 10:00:33 Note that Mrs. La Lime since 2018, is the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti and she currently runs the Minujusth which will officially end on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Recall that last June 25, the Security Council adopted a resolution creating a United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28089-haiti-un-in-october-no-more-peacekeeping-armed-force-in-haiti.html from October 16, replacing the Minujusth, the peace operation born on October 16, 2017 https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-22430-icihaiti-minujusth-messages-from-the-united-states-and-the-un.html under Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter will cede hence the place has a special political mission created under chapter 6 of this same Charter. Note that the Security Council has granted BINUH a mandate for an initial period of 12 months. In its resolution creating this new special political mission, the Council stated that UNHIB will be responsible, inter alia, for advising the Government of Haiti on ways to promote and strengthen stability and good governance, including the rule of law and the rule of law, support Port-au-Prince in the areas of elections, police, human rights, prison administration and justice sector reform. Learn more about Mrs. La Lime : Prior to joining the United Nations, La Lime pursued a diplomatic career in the service of her country, the United States, notably as Ambassador to Angola (2014-2017) and Mozambique (2003-2006). She also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in US embassies in Chad (1996-1999), Morocco (2001-2003) and South Africa (2008-2011) where she was also Consul General of the United States. United in Cape Town (2006-2008). Director of Outreach Programs at US Africa Command (AFRICOM) from 2011 to 2013, La Lime also served as Director and Deputy Director for Central Africa in the Office of African Affairs of the US State Department.
