Haiti - FLASH Gold-Cup 2023 : End of the dream for Haiti eliminated by Honduras [1-2] (Video)
Sunday July 2nd, 2023, on the lawn of the "Bank of America Stadium" in Charlotte, North Carolina, our Grenadiers as part of the 2023 Gold Cup, faced Honduras in the group stage in a decisive march for qualification in 1/ 4 finals. A match that our Grenadiers lost [1-2], a defeat that marked their elimination from the Gold Cup.

For this last match of the group stage, the Spanish-Argentine coach, Gabriel Calderon Pellegrino Gabriel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39439-haiti-football-new-national-coach-ai-for-the-grenadiers.html had made two changes from the last game (Haiti vs Mexico https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39896-haiti-gold-cup-2023-haiti-loses-against-mexico-[1-3]-video.html ), replacing Donald Guerrier and Fafà Picault respectively by Carnejy Antoine and Derrick Étienne Jr.

Starting XI of the Grenadiers :
#1Alexandre Pierre: RC Strasbourg (France)
#2 Carlens Arcus: Speed Arnhem (Netherlands)
#4 Ricardo Adé: Liga Deport/Va Universitaria De Quito (Ecuador)
#6 Garven Metusala: FC Forges (Ontario, Canada)
#7 Carnejy Antoine: Maccabi Haifa FC (Israel)
#9 Duckens Nazon: CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria)
#11 Derrick Etienne Jr.: Atlanta United (USA)
#17 Danley Jean-Jacques: FC Metz (France)
#18 Carl-Fred Sainté: North Texas (USA)
#20 Frantzdy Pierrot: Maccabi Haifa FC (Israel)
#22 Alex Christian Jr.: FC Telavi (Georgia)

In the first period Frantzdy Pierrot opened the scoring for Haiti at 20' [1-0], which the Hondurans equalized on a header from Jerry Bengtson at 42' [1-1], score unchanged until halfway through. time.

Returning from the locker room despite many opportunities to increase their score, our grenadiers multiplied the errors which they finally paid dearly for and José Pinto broke the score for Honduras at 59' [1-2], score unchanged at the end of regulation time.

An improbable defeat against a team that was nothing terrible, come true, which signs the elimination of Haiti from the Gold Cup, just as was the case in the group stage in the Glod Cup 2 years ago …

Despite this victory, Honduras also leaves the competition, Qatar having won the victory against Mixque [1-0] taking the 2nd position in the Group standings.

Honduras: Jerry Benegton 42' and José Pinto 59'
Haiti: Frantdzy Pierrot 20'

Reacting to this elimination Raymonde Rival, the Minister of Sports said she hoped "[...] that the Grenadiers will learn the lessons of this Gold Cup to better prepare for the next international matches, particularly the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. She hopes that their strength mentality and their professionalism allow them to recover from this elimination by realizing in the future great victories for the pride of Haiti! Grenadye alaso !"
