Haiti - FLASH : Bad news, electricity rationing at least until the end of the year 23/08/2025 10:12:43
It should be recalled that on June 17, residents of Mirebalais forced the shutdown of the Péligre power plant for the second time, demanding that the government strengthen security to end the terror and gang occupation in the region. Unidentified residents had sabotaged five pylons of the 115,000-volt high-voltage line of the Electricité d'Haïti (EDH), which supplies power to the metropolitan area and the capital. Although the Minister of Public Works announced about a month ago the start of on-site assessments of the repair work on high-voltage pylons and other equipment damaged by protesters, everything remains at a standstill, laments Felix Pierre Michel, President of the Haitian Electricity Employees' Union (EDH), who urges Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and Laurent Saint-Cyr, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, to make this issue a priority, after more than two months of inaction. According to available information, the repair work will be complicated, and it will take approximately six months to import the necessary equipment from abroad. Currently, E-Power is injecting 26 megawatts of rotating electrical energy into the grid, while thermal power plants cannot operate efficiently due to a fuel shortage.
