Haiti - Environment : Towards the production of Green Bio Briquettes 21/04/2014 10:33:27
Tens of thousands of trees are cut down every year to meet the energy and economic needs of the population. The systematic felling of trees for the production, among others, charcoal has a negative impact on the country's environment and endangers the life of the population.
Aware of this situation, the Government whose search for an alternative to wood charcoal is one of its main priorities in the fight against deforestation and environmental protection, encourages alternative initiatives.
With the expertise of Georges Valmé, a specialist in renewable energy, a pilot project to replace wood charcoal with briquettes made from household waste and agricultural materials, will soon be launched in Bernagousse (first communal section of Pestel).
This pilot project, generator of jobs that will offer peasants an alternative to wood charcoal, will be extended in all regions of the country.
