Haiti - Social : The Minister Delegate Auguste and Michaëlle Jean at the 68th UN General Assembly
As part of the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister Responsible for Human Rights and the Fight against Poverty Extreme, Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, participates on 5 and 6 May 2014 at the headquarters of United Nations in New York, to the High Level special thematic debate on "Culture and Sustainable Development in the development agenda Post-2015".

This event follows the adoption last December by UN members, of resolution recognizing the direct link between culture and the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.

This Monday the intervention of the Minister will be organized around culture as a catalyst and engine of sustainable development in Haiti. The minister will especially highlight the importance of culture as a strong and viable economic sector that generates income, creates decent jobs and addresses both the economic and social dimensions of poverty through cultural heritage and cultural and creative industries.

She will also defend the idea according to which should be encouraged the creation of centers of community integration, which would serve as a place of creation to maximize the potential and promote cultural exchanges between peoples. She will also talk about inclusion and social cohesion, the introduction of artistic expression in the curriculum and literacy to strengthen the capacity of creation. The minister Delegate will insist on the need to transform neighborhoods in artistic expression with as the experience of sculptors of the Grand Rue in Port-au-Prince, the Noailles village of Croix des Bouquets, Folie Ouverte in Carrefour Feuilles, artisans Papier Mâché in Jacmel.

Michaëlle Jean, the UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti, will take the opportunity to emphasize the importance of considering the creativity of populations, in an inclusive and collaborative manner, for a better chance of success. She believes it is time to act "We need to hear the Haitians tell us how culture is a solid scaffold to build and rebuild their country, Ms. Jean said. After so many international conventions, protocols, declarations, action plans and programs on the subject, we need to move from words to deeds. Not integrate, specifically and explicitly, the culture on the international development agenda would be seriously deny to the populations of world the contribution of their creativity and abilities, their heritage, their ancestral and modern knowledge, their traits of civilization and their rich diversity."

Tuesday, May 6, the Minister Delegate will participate as a panelist at a special event organized by UNESCO and the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) to be held under the theme "Culture economic engine of development: experiences and success."

Ms. Jean invited to speak at this special event , said she was pleased with the way the two organizations , UNESCO and OIF, associate to the efforts deployed especially in Haiti in the culture sector to strengthen social cohesion, for the revitalization of local, regional and national economies, for nnovation, creating jobs, new opportunities and new markets emphasizing "The Haitian population is very laborious [...] It is full of artisans and artists of quality. A country that wants with all its forces to develop a sustainable economy to get out of the chronic dependence on international aid, also relies on the culture. It is unequivocally an engine, a catalyst, a strong and viable sector that generates income, to create decent jobs, revitalize the productive sectors in many communities inked in particular with the development of sustainable tourism and integrated. Progress has been made ​​and this is very encouraging."
