Some cited as example some famous personalities to whom I would not dare compare myself an instant. I considered that coming from a small country so bruised and buffeted through painful vicissitudes, but also historically glorious, having spent my life fighting for the famous 'singing tomorrows' evoked by Gabriel Péri, before the Nazi execution squad, having never let go to pursue the former deposed dictator Duvalier and the minions who succeeded him, having tirelessly with my camera, my pen, my brushes, taking my place in the struggles of slots for a faithful society to the Enlightenment, I could accept it without ashamed accept the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor. I consider it as an important distinction, especially because it is awarded to those that I just mentioned. In this violent and cruel period we are going through, I want to see through this homage which is addressed to me, the recognition of my fidelity to our universal values and my fight for their defense [...] » Learn more about Gérald Bloncourt : Gérald Bloncourt was born in Bainet in Haiti on November 4, 1926. The artist activities of young Bloncourt dispute it to those related to its commitments activist alongside Jacques-Stephen Alexis, two of the main leaders of the Haitian revolution of 1946. After the departure of President Lescot and the taking of power by the army, he was arrested and deported to France, where he settled in Paris. From Paris, he rebels against the Duvalier dictatorship. In 1986, the year of his first return to Haiti after the fall of "Baby Doc", he published at Nathan "The Haitian Painting", in collaboration with Marie-José Nadal-Gardère. He is President of the Committee of Books for Haiti which collects more than one million books for the country. Since then, Gérald Bloncourt conducted a dozen trips to his homeland. In 1987, he became the founder and secretary-general of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights and Democracy in Haiti. Present on the internet since its inception, his website www.bloncourt.net/ presents some of his pictures, his painting, testimony on the events of January 1946 in Haiti, the Duvalier dictatorship and on the bicentenary of the Haitian Revolution.
