Haiti - Dominican Republic : Everything is ready to deport foreigners...
On the sidelines of the 6th anniversary of the founding of the Directorate General of Immigration Dominican, Jose Ricardo Taveras, the Director of Immigration declared that everything was ready to begin the deportation process of foreigners (of any nationality) in an irregular situation in Dominican territory, in accordance with the law, after the completion of the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) on 17 June.

"The law is there, implementation capacity will be when the time comes." About financial resources necessary for the implementation of immigration policies from mid-June, he said that the Executive awaited the intervention of President Danilo Medina "but what I can tell you is that the President is going to help us in this regard."

He explained, in order to avoid any misunderstanding, that it will not be a hunting or persecution of illegal persons. He said that no deportation will not be done within 24 hours, but it will be a process sustained over time, respecting the dignity and respect for human rights "Initially, the foreign citizens who are in the country, will be asked to leave voluntarily. Secondly, if they do not leave voluntarily, through various mechanisms established by the law, they will be returned to their country of origin."

Andrés Navarro, the Minister Dominican Foreign Affairs, also announced that the eviction process, including Haitian nationals in an illegal situation (which represent most of the foreigners concerned), will begin nationwide in June. He said that this process will be negotiated with neighboring authorities as part of the Joint Bilateral Commission.

Wanting reassured sectors who believe that the Dominican Republic will conduct mass deportations, as Ricardo Taveras, he insisted he was not "an action for a day" but a process permanent that will take place over time.

Moreover, the same day, within the framework of Identification Program and Documentation of Haitian Immigrants (PIDIH) the Government of Haiti, after Santo Domingo office (opened in July 2014), finally opened its offices in the cities of Santiago and Barahona (2 months before the expiry of PNRE), two cities where concentrates a large part of the Haitian community.

Recall that the PIDIH, an initiative of the Haitian State, aims to deliver identification documents birth certificates, passport, National Identification Card to Haitian citizens who are without (around the world). Proof of identity allows our compatriots in irregular migratory situation, to register for the Regulation Plan, the first stage of a process during which the applicant must meet the other requirements in the PNRE, to possibly expect a regularization of its migration status.
