Haiti - Security : The National Police celebrates its 20 years
Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Police Academy to Frères, many personalities including Prime Minister Evans Paul, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Me. Pierre-Richard Casimir respectively President and Vice President of the Superior Council of the National Police of Haiti (CSPN), the Senate President of the Republic and the Deputy Head of the Minustah, took part in the ceremony of the 20th anniversary of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The ceremony began with a Mass of thanksgiving in the premises of the Academy "The nation relies on you so that people can sleep and go about their daily activities in peace [...] More the risks are great more the exploit is exceptional. I salute the memory of police officers who have preceded us in the exercise of their function. May their sacrifice not be vain," said the principal celebrant, Cardinal Chibly Langlois, before an audience composed among other of officials of the 3 powers, representatives of the Minustah, the international community, members of the political class, of senior members of the police force and the press.

After Mass was held a parade of the PNH and a spectacular demonstration of intervention of law enforcement in case of riots.

"As President of the CSPN I present the warmest congratulations to the proud and energetic Police officers. The PNH is invested with a noble and sacred mission [...] The Haitian National Police is oriented towards the supervision of the citizen and the protection of lives and property, it must remain neutral in the electoral context. The Government encourages the police to move forward by taking care of its relations with the population. Suppleness, firmness and commitment, are the wishes of the executive and of the Government for the 20 years of the PNH. Chapo ba pou 376 polisye ki mouri yo! Peyi a pap bliye nou. Nou solidè ak 40 sila yo ki soufri andikap: gen 32 ladan yo nou pral onore. Polisye yo, se boukliye nou," stated the Prime Minister Pa

The Minister Casimir emphasized on the efforts made by the Administration Martelly since coming to power in 2011, for the modernization of the police institution. He recalled that the arrival of Michel Martelly, the PNH had only 8,711 officers, noting that today, the institution had about 12,000 and the number will increase to 15,000 officers by 2016. In this perspective, the Minister said that the 26th promotion of the PNH was being recruited.

Godson Orélus, the Commander in Chief of the PNH, praised the courage and determination of police officers who very often operate in difficult conditions. He believes that much progress has been made in terms of professionalization and development. Apart from the salary increase [in the next budget] announced by the Prime Minister and decent housing for police officers, Godson Orélus announced better insurance coverage in favor of the police and the reduction of gaps in the granting of grades. He also announced the continuation of the purification process within the police institution recalling that "The police must at all times be exemplary."

He spared no words to thank the international community, including the United States, Canada and several countries in Asia and Latin America, for their great contributions "I address special thanks to all those who supported the PNH modernization efforts. I salute your determination to serve the nation, not to mention our martyrs whose names will be engraved in golden letters in our minds. I welcome the Government of Haiti for its assistance to the PNHo strengthen its operational capacity."

While from Belgium, the President Martelly declared "I commend the law enforcement officers deployed throughout the country on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the National Police of Haiti (PNH)."
