Jacob Enoh Eben, the Spokesman of the Presidency of the African Union (AU) has denied rumors published in various media, suggesting that the admission of Haiti as a member of the AU, would be formalized in July, at the next summit of the pan-African organization in Kigali, Rwanda.

Haiti can not be admitted as a member of the African Union "this information is wrong," said the spokesperson of the pan-African organization on VOA Africa (a service of the Voice of America) stating that Haiti is collaborating well with AU through the program diaspora, but maintain its observer status

Jacob Enoh Eben reminded that only African States may join as full members, as stipulated in the Constitutive Act of the AU, Art 29, paragraph 1. As long as these texts are not modified to open the doors to the country outside the African continent, Haiti will retain its current observer status.
