Haiti - Politic : Speech of Privert to the UN 24/09/2016 08:56:37
A very diplomatic speech where certain sensitive topics were addressed, but that will leave many observers dissatisfie. On the migration problem Privert explain that "[...] The Haitian delegation is aware of the resurgence of significant number of our compatriots who leave the country in search of a better life. Our delegation understands and takes note of the legitimate concerns expressed at this rostrum by representatives of some host countries or transit. This human drama calls for concrete decisions and actions, to give the Haitian people of new opportunities and better living conditions. To achieve the country needs political stability, implementation of infrastructure development-oriented, structures supporting the consolidation of rule of law and a better understanding of the major socio-economic challenges to which the country is facing. We started to talk with some host countries in search of common solutions [...]" Regarding the next elections Privert recalled "[...] In about two weeks, the people of Haiti goes to the polls. The mandate which I was invested by the National Assembly during my election in the second degree is clear: restore confidence of the Haitian people in the electoral process and restore, as soon as possible, constitutional order by completing the electoral cycle interrupted in 2015 and holding fair presidential and legislative elections, inclusive, transparent and credible [...]" Ainally addressing the sensitive issue of cholera he declared "[...] My country needs international understanding for the challenges of unhealthiness, who continually exposes it to epidemics, endemic diseases, the diseases came from all sides. During recent years, my people have suffered enormously from rampant infestation and how deleterious by malaria, cholera, zika, chikungunya, dengue and so on. To defeat these scourges, declarations of good intentions, as comforting as they are, have no effect.
