Haiti - Elections : The CEP confirmed the postponement of the publication of final results 20/12/2010 08:20:51
According to our informants, Pierre Louis Opont, would have indicated Sunday that the postponement had nothing to do with the request made by José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), a request that was never sent to the CEP he stressed. Pierre Louis Opont justifies this postponement by social instability in the country, processing challenges [shift of the electoral calendar] and the time that may be necessary to check the minutes. In summary, this decision, according to its Director General is a decision "independent" taken by the CEP without "influence or pressure"... The wait for a new date, the postponement of the publication of the final results of the first round of elections of November 28, will be the cause of much confusion in the population and fuel the "rumor mill". Many demonstrations and calls for mobilizations are announced these last days for this Monday and are taken very seriously by the population. Saturday many particular are flocked to the gas stations and stores to make provisions. In Port-au-Prince tension is palpable and it is feared, if there are events that they will be more important than those that followed the preliminary results and the risk of paralysis of activities is once again fear.
