Haiti - Politics : Message from the Mayor of Port-au-Prince
On the occasion of the New Year, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Ralph Youri Chevry addressed a message to all the citizens of the capital :

Message from Mayor Chevry :
"Citizens of Port-au-Prince,

The year 2016 is over, it was a long year with many events, ranging from elections to the passage of Hurricane Matthew, we experienced a lot of emotions [...]

I want to take this opportunity to salute your courage, you citizens who every day you fight for a better life.

Despite the poor living conditions, I want to tell you that the City of Port-au-Prince does not sleep, we work day and night to improve the conditions of the people who live in the capital.

A few months ago, we began to register the houses built in the commune; Last October we began to mark the names of the streets and for more than two weeks we are in a battle to solve the problem of rubbish all over the capital. We started to get results particularly in La Salines area, which clearly demonstrate that we are able to clean up the city, if there are means and participation of all.

There is a lot of work and it is not easy, but with your understanding and the collaboration of all citizens, we will still get to give the capital another face.

We are working on many projects and there are many plans being made with the Haitian State and with the international community, especially the city of Montreal and the European Union to bring more service to the population in 2017.

This message is to tell you to hold on and not let go, keep fighting for what you believe.

Me and the two other magistrates Kettyna and Bernard, we take this opportunity to wish all our best wishes and a good year 2017

Let us revive Port-au-Prince !"
