Haiti - Music : Launch of the 12th edition of the International Jazz Festival of PAP
Tuesday at the Karibe Hotel, Colombe Emilie Jessy Menos, the Minister of Tourism took part in the launch of the 12th edition of the International Festival of Jazz (PAPJAZZ) of Port-au-Prince alongside the organizers and partners of the Festival, which will take place this year in various sites in the heart of Port-au-Prince in the province and on the Côte des Arcadins (Royal Decameron) from January 20 to 27, 2018.

For this 12th edition, PAPJAZZ is honoring a man, Herby Widmaier, father of Jazz in Haiti and a country, Brazil's musical big brother of the Region. With the support of its international partners, 10 embassies or foreign institutions, a total of 13 countries, including Haiti, are present on the different stages of the Festival. Some of them are decentralized this year, with services in Jacmel (thanks to the complicity of Switzerland, France and the United States) and a fence on the beach of Royal Decameron.

The Haiti Jazz Foundation has invited international jazz stars every year. The opening weekend at Karibe will feature extraordinary headliners such as the American saxophonist Kenny Garrett, recipient, the great Brazilian singer Leila Pinheiro, the Canadian singer Emilie-Claire Barlow and the French bassist Dominique Di Piazza and the famous French trumpet player Erik Truffaz. For the closing on the beach of Decameron club is the exceptional Norman Brown, guitarist of the West Coast of the United States, who will be on stage. Alongside artists from a dozen other countries, the "jazzmen" of Haiti Réginald Policard and John Bern Thomas will be present and Haitian music will be offered in all its diversity with artists such as Strings and flamenco tropical, Beethova Obas for a Creole bossa nova, the flamboyant Rutshelle Guillaume, RAM for a breakaway to voodoo music or finally Haiti's flagship DJ, Michael Brun.

The workshops and "masters classes" will be held every day of the week at the Fokal, as well as a photo exhibition at the Brazilian Cultural Center which will also host a tribute lecture to Herby Widmaier on Friday 26 January. Many young Haitian musicians will perform in the "After Hours" every night and a "Discovery Stage" offers young talents of all musical trends the opportunity to perform in the auditorium of the Fokal Friday 26 at 3:00 pm. Finally, the Haiti Jazz Foundation has formalized a partnership with the Collège Catts Pressoir and particularly with its jazz section, to support its efforts to integrate music in its curriculum with didactic and material support in order to ensure the musical succession of the PAPJAZZ. They will be present at the opening on the Prestige stage of the Karibe.

More simple and more powerful, it will now be under the name PAPJAZZ that we will refer to the festival, with a new logo.

The Festival contributes to reconstructing the image of a festive and musically creative Haiti, and thanks to the initiative of several tour operators, it is an opportunity to come to Haiti to go tourism to discover its culture and its historical artistic heritage or gastronomic. For the first time, 5 tour operators (including 3 from the diaspora) focused on the event and designed tourist packages.
