Haiti - Justice : Former DG of the PNH Godson Orélus released

After the dismissal of the appeal of the lawyers of the former Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) Godson Orélus on January 29th by the Head of Public Prosecutions Yves Martial, who wanted to have time to audition the others indicted before pronouncing https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26314-haiti-justice-seizure-of-weapons-in-st-marc-9-indicted-2-in-prison-and-7-fugitives.html hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26820-haiti-news-zapping.html , Tuesday, February 26, the Court of Appeal of Gonaïves has heard again the appeal of the lawyers of Orélus and the President of the Court of Appeal of Gonaïves, Octélus Dorvilien, has granted a release of nut to their client.
Recall that the former DG of the PNH had been incarcerated on October 26 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25946-haiti-justice-godson-orelus-former-dg-of-the-pnh-arrested-and-imprisoned.html in the context of the case of the seizure of weapons at the customs of Saint-Marc in 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18569-haiti-flash-worrying-seizure-of-weapons-from-the-usa.html on order of the examining magistrate of Saint-Marc Dieunel Lumérant who had decided deciding Orélus before the criminal court.
An order that Godson Orelus's lawyers challenged on appeal https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-26393-icihaiti-justice-the-lawyers-of-godson-orelus-appeal-the-decision-of-judge-lumerant.html , accusing Judge Lumérant of having transformed outside the framework of the law, the status of witness of their client in indictment.
Note that although released, Godson Orélus must remain available to justice as needed throughout the duration of the trial.
As for Sandra Thélusma, responsible for the clearance of the cargo of arms seized at the Port of Saint-Marc in 2016, also in detention under the charges of : complicity in transnational crime, illicit trafficking of firearms, ammunition and associations of wrongdoing, in view of her request for release from her lawyers refused and she remains incarcerated.
