Haiti - FLASH : The opposition forces the continuation of the indictment session of the Head of State
Wednesday, after 5 hours late, the roll-call finally confirms the quorum with 88 deputies, allowing the beginning of the plenary session (initially scheduled at 10:00 am) in which was to be submitted the motion of accusation of the Head of State supported by 21 deputies of the opposition https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27966-haiti-flash-21-deputies-demand-the-indictment-for-high-treason-of-president-moise.html

For more than one hour the agenda proposal was discussed and after another hour of challenge a reading session of some items of the agenda stopped at agenda item 6 which provided for the reading of the "indictment". The bureau of the House called on the opposition to stand in the gallery and read out the reasons for the indictment, which was denied by the accusing members. The latter demanded, before proceeding to this reading, that they be given the 33 administrative documents they had requested in a correspondence sent to the office on July 8th. They claim that these documents constitute evidence of violation of the Constitution.

The scandalous majority of deputies said that it was up to the deputies who accuse to provide evidence of violations of the Constitution. Others say they are disappointed that the opposition, which has been demanding for several months this session to put to the vote a motion to impeach the Head of State, is not even ready, while some deputies call fantasy spectacle the opposition's approach

Opposition deputies began to use megaphones to disrupt the Assembly when the Speaker of the Majority tabled a proposal to enforce the agenda.

A situation that forced the President of the Chamber to hold talks with the Presidents of the three political blocs formed. Around 7:30 pm, Gary Bodeau, noting that no agreement was possible, announced the continuity of the session.

Majority deputies need to set up a Commission of Inquiry to obtain the documents required by the opposition... For his part, Gary Bodeau suggested that he "would evaluate the possibilities" of providing the documents requested to the opposition...

No date has been mentioned for the resumption of the session while opposition deputies threaten to paralyze the Assembly until they have satisfied their requests.
