Haiti - Politic : «Haiti is ungovernable with this Constitution», dixit Jovenel Moïse
In a recent interview with the Spanish press agency EFE, President Moïse, asked whether he was in favor of a new Constitution, replied in substance that he was pleading for the drafting of a new Mother Law aiming to strengthen the role of the President.

"It's certain. I campaigned to amend the 1987 Constitution. I spent 22 months talking about it. And yet today I am no longer speaking of an amendment. I am talking about a constitutional revision, because the country is ungovernable with this Constitution.

When I speak of constitutional revision, I want to be clear in everyone's mind, it is not for President Jovenel, it is the next President who will benefit from this constitutional revision.

It is my two years and 10 months at the head of the country that allow me to say that we must change this Constitution. In practice, it is a Constitution which prevents the emancipation and development of the country. The country we all dream of : political stability, as I said in my election campaign, which is teh first public good.

We cannot have this stability with this Constitution.

[...] I must tell you that Haiti is tired of this Constitution. Not only is the Constitution a source of political crisis for the country, but it is also incompatible with our culture. The Haitian people are a presidential people. Anything that doesn't work is charged to the President. All the country's problems are the responsibility of the President, yet the Constitution grants extremely limited powers to the President of the Republic."
