Haiti - Airport incident : Sen. Edwin Zenny expresses his solidarity to customs officers
Following the incident last Sunday at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, where customs officers agents had been prevented from doing their job of checking luggage of a group of Brazilian military https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3109-haiti-insecurity-sunday-incident-at-the-toussaint-louverture-international-airport.html , Edwin Zenny, the Senator from South-East, has expressed his solidarity to customs officers in this serious incident. He asserts that this kind of incident shows the disrespect of the UN peacekeepers vis-à-vis the country and calls the head of state to take a stand on this issue.

Questioned on this matter, Thursday, Vincenzo Pugliese, Deputy Spokesman of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah), during the weekly press briefing, declared "MINUSTAH takes these allegations very seriously. The Mission has been informed of this incident which occurred Sunday, June 5 at the Toussaint Louverture Airport, [...] It immediately launched an investigation to establish the circumstances and also informed the Chief of the Haitian State and the Foreign Ministry and kept them regularly informed of the developments on this issue. Once the investigation will be completed, results will be communicated to the Haitian authorities as soon as possible" adding "I want to clarify that in accordance to the Agreement between the Government of Haiti and the United Nations, concerning the Status of the United Nations Operation in Haiti (Status of Forces Agreement - SOFA), the Minustah and its personnel comply with all laws and regulations of the country. The Special Representative takes all appropriate measures to ensure compliance with these obligations."
