Haiti - Diplomacy : Inauguration of the Consulate of Haiti in Dakhla (Morocco) 15/12/2020 08:43:08 Haiti is the first non-Arab and non-African country to open a consulate in Dakhla and the 8th diplomatic mission to settle in this city. More than a simple representation, this diplomatic mission will allow the exploration of investment opportunities in Haiti, among others in agribusiness, fishing, modernization of ports... In a statement to the press Nasser Bourita declared "This city has become an important diplomatic center with its location, its vocation as a platform towards Sub-Saharan Africa and its potential and which presents real prospects for regional development" In his speech, Ambassador Arthus expressed Haiti’s wish "to bring together not only the two peoples but also the communities of the two countries, mainly those of Dakhla which are very active". He also expressed on this occasion the determination of his government to defend the indivisibility of Moroccan territory; position that Haiti will also defend within international organizations. Remember this inauguration comes 48 hours after the opening (Saturday, December 12) of the Embassy of Haiti in Rabat (Morocco) which will have jurisdiction over several other neighboring countries and which marks the return of Haitian diplomacy in Africa as desired, expressed many times by President Jovenel Moïse. During this inauguration, Haitian Chancellor Claude Joseph indicated that this Embassy is part of the determination of the Administration-Moïse / Jouthe to redeploy and boost Haitian diplomacy so as to effectively make it a lever for the development of the country. Learn more about Dakhla : Dakhla is a city (over 100,000 inhabitants) located in Western Sahara, located nearly 1,200 km south of Agadir (disputed and non-autonomous territory according to the UN) under de facto administration by Morocco since its evacuation by Mauritania in 1979. It is a strategic city for Morocco, which seeks to establish definitively its legitimacy on Western Sahara. Despite a cease-fire signed in 1991 with the tribes of the Polisario Front, an armed political movement that demands the independence of the region, the area is still closely watched by the military.
