Haiti - DR : The Dominican Republic will send military reinforcements to the border
Dominican President Luis Abinader in an interview with El País in America newspaper where social, diplomatic, health, economic and political issues were discussed, Abinader referring to the Dominican Republic's relations with Haiti, said :

"For the first time in decades, there is a Government with a defined policy towards Haiti that is based on migration control. No civilized society can afford to have undocumented citizens on its territory and we will make sure of that. At the same time, we have good relations with President Jovenel Moïse and his Government, but our interest is to channel all possible aid to Haiti through the international community, both health and institutional. We are going to draw attention to this, because if the international community can get tired, we cannot be : everything that is happening in Haiti affects us here and we are taking a heavy toll [...]"

In the spirit of these words, the General Commander of the Dominican Army, Julio Ernesto Florián Pérez, announced during a visit to the border area of Dajabón that he would send reinforcements to the entire border area of the country (without specifying the number) to prevent the massive entry of undocumented Haitians into Dominican territory. Note that in December 2019, 1,200 military personnel had been sent as reinforcements https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29660-haiti-flash-the-dominican-army-sends-new-reinforcements-to-the-border-with-haiti.html
