Haiti - Armed clashes : More than 1,500 displaced people, humanitarian assistance is organized
The deadly clashes of the past week between rival gangs, in particular in Martissant https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33912-haiti-flash-gang-war-hundreds-of-people-flee-martissant.html had dramatic consequences for the population who had to flee to safer areas...

Civil Protection and public and private partners have stepped up assistance operations to more than 1,500 internally displaced persons from Martissant and other neighboring sectors, who have been accommodated for almost a week at the Carrefour Sports Center.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), with the support of various partners, provided the displaced with equipment including mattresses, blankets and hygiene kits.

For its part, the World Food Program is working with the DPC to provide emergency food aid. To this end, 2.5 tonnes of rice and 250 liters of oil arrived Thursday via the "UN Humanitarian Air Service" thanks to a contingency stock from WFP-Haiti.

To prevent potential health and hygiene problems, handwashing stations are located on the site that the Adventist Aid and Development Agency (ADRA) has set up and also manages several portable latrines. For its part, the National Directorate for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), with the support of UNICEF, coordinates the management of water, sanitation and hygiene on site.

The DPC takes this opportunity to salute the efforts of the members of the municipal committees of Carrefour and Port-au-Prince, who have stepped up interventions since the start of this crisis to assist displaced people in precarious situations.
