Haiti - Fuel shortage : The PNH rejects the responsibility on the transporters
Tuesday afternoon at the Prime Minister's Office of members of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) gave press conference around the fuel shortage that continues in the country. Frantz Elbé, Director General ai of the Haitian National Police (PNH) affirmed that the security corridor set up by the authorities at the Varreux terminal allowed the delivery of rice and cement, but no fuel, returning the ball in the camps of other actors in the oil sector, implying the oil transporters, without naming them.

More directly, Erol Joseph the Minister of Defense, in his intervention indicated that some carriers have not respected their commitments made with the government as part of a plan to facilitate the distribution of fuel on the local market evoking the case of 30 tankers, hired by the Government which were filled at the oil terminal of Thor (Carrefour) and which were all sold on the black market, assuring that it will ensure that it will have an investigation.

In addition, Minister Joseph said that Monday, November 8 of the 77 carriers expected to take part in a fuel delivery operation, only one showed up on the scene, he explains "we have taken all measures to secure transport, unfortunately the drivers do not come to work and we understand why..."

Marc-André Dériphonse, President of the National Association of Service Station Owners (ANAPROSS) recalls that 4 drivers are still in the hands of gangs despite the payment of ransoms, as well as 10 hijacked tankers. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35167-haiti-flash-10-fuel-trucks-hijacked-by-gangs-in-3-days.html

For its part, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) in a note is extremely concerned about the fuel shortage, stressing that the lack of delivery of petroleum products constitutes a serious obstacle to the provision of essential services as well as the movement of people and goods.

"BINUH asks all the actors involved in this situation to refrain from any action that could compromise fuel deliveries, so that this essential resource both for daily life and for a resumption of socio-economic activities of the country can be accessible to all Haitians, to State services and institutions, as well as to industries."
