Haiti - FLASH : Freedom of the Press, Haiti collapses and falls 29 places (world ranking)
May 3rd, 2023 brings back the day chosen at the United Nations General Assembly 30 years ago as World Press Freedom Day.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its article 19 states "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."

The Citizens' Rights Office (OPC), on this special day, "[...] salutes all the workers of the Press who risk their lives every day in a society plagued by glaring social inequalities to give voice to the marginalized, to victims from all walks of life, betrayed by the irresponsibility of rulers and resigning elites," recalling that "Freedom of expression constitutes the essential element for the enjoyment and protection of all other human rights."

The OPC remembers all journalists murdered in the exercise of their profession by enemies of the truth...

The year 2022 has been one of the most violent years for journalism in Haiti, 9 journalists have been murdered in addition to several cases of attacks in the exercise of their functions and abuses by authorities on journalists in 2022, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38530-haiti-black-year-9-journalists-killed-in-2022-others-attacked-in-the-country.html when Haiti has found 3rd country in the world where the most journalists are killed https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38530-haiti-black-year-9-journalists-killed-in-2022-others-attacked-in-the-country.html .
