Haiti - FLASH : Haiti 3rd in the world ranking of the number of journalists killed (2022 Report)
On Tuesday 7 February 2023, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) the world's largest organization of journalists, representing 600,000 media professionals in 187 unions and associations in over 140 countries released its annual report on journalists and media workers killed in 2022.

This 32nd report details 68 killings of media workers, including targeted bomb attacks and fatal crossfire incidents.

The toll of casualties and tragedies in journalism in 2022 is dominated by Ukraine, where 12 journalists and other media workers were killed.

Top 5 countries where journalists are killed the most :
1st Ukraine: 12 journalists killed
2nd Mexico: 11
3rd Haiti: 7
4th Pakistan: 5
5th Colombia and Philippi: 4 each

The IFJ affirms that the absence of action and political will to fight against impunity for crimes committed against journalists contributes to the current crisis of insecurity in the media and calls for the creation of an International Convention of the United Nations for the protection of journalists and media professionals.

"This publication not only covers the different levels of violence against journalists and other media workers but also the underlying causes [...] The details contained in this report reflect the range of threats, acts of violence and the culture of impunity that explain the persistent lack of safety in journalism," said Anthony Bellanger, IFJ General Secretary,

The Federation's final report also lists the names of 375 journalists and media workers currently behind bars, a new record since the IFJ began publishing its list of imprisoned journalists in 2020.

TOP 5 countries where journalists are imprisoned the most :
1st China and Hong Kong: 84 journalists imprisoned
2nd Burma: 64
3rd Turkey: 51
4th Iran: 34
5th Belarus: 33
