Haiti - Politic : The Haitian students commemorate Dessalines in their own way
The 163 Haitian students admitted in the Senegalese universities thanks to the gesture of the African solidarity of President Abdoulaye Wade, have organized Sunday a day dedicated to the heroes of the Independence and to the 205th years of the death of the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines. The event took place at the Culture House Douta Seck, Dakar, Senegal where the Senegalese were invited to discover the cultural and gastronomic of Haiti.

The cultural and gastronomic Day solemnly opened by the Senegalese and the Haitian national anthems. William Estema, the President of the Haitian students, after having manifested, on behalf of the Haitian students, a special recognition in respect to the President and the people of Senegal, spoke to students reminding them that "we are a strong youth, full of promise, hold loud and the torch that we carry [...] It is time for solidarity, sharing and humanism [...] We must never forget that we are ambassadors of Haiti and of Africa [...] For the ancestors, for the Fatherland, walk together. Let's be a substantial youth or a country strong, because unity is our strength."

On a more festive tone the day continued on the discovery of Haiti through its culture and gastronomy in a musical atmosphere of Rap Creole with Baricad Diakout Crew and the sound of Boukman. At the buffet food, the Haitians have made discovered to the many visitors, the recipes of Haiti, emphasizing among other things the "Maïmoul", the "Piklis" and the "Chiktay".

Were present, among other personalities : Carole Niasse, Honorary Consul of Haiti, Abdoulaye Racine Senghor, Director of the Office of the Minister of Culture of Senegal and Marie Claire Dieng, Representative of the "parrains" and "marraines" of Haitian students.

Samba Fall, Coordinator of the host project of the Haitians in Senegal, reminded to the Haitian students "Your mission is to study, your goal is to succeed and to participate in the reconstruction of Haiti."
