Haiti - Security : Godson Aurélus, heard by the Senate Committee
Wednesday, Godson Aurélus, the acting Director-General of the National Police of Haiti, was heard for several hours by the Senate Committee on Justice and Security, in the process of ratification of his appointment.

The Senator Pierre Francky Excius, President of the Commission invited Godson Aurélus to resist to any form of pressure from the executive. Godson Aurélus replied, "I will not obey to anyone. y compass is the Constitution and the bylaws of the police institution."

Asked about the partisan behavior, observed in the police during the electoral contests, the new acting Director had explained that under his command, it will not happen and that he would put in place a strategy to prevent this type of behavior.

During his hearing, Godson Aurélus announced to the senators a plan to modernize and strengthen the police force over a period of 3 years and also insisted on the need for the National Police, to have an intelligence service efficient.

After this step, the Commission should promptly submit its report and recommendations to the Assembly of Senate, which should ratify or not [vote by simple majority] the new Director of the PNH. Most observers agree to say that this appointment will be ratified.
