Haiti - Economy : Slowdown in rising inflation 26/11/2012 09:57:23 Growth in monthly inflation is due mainly to the sectors "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (0.3%), "Health" (0.3%) and "Leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture" (6.9%). The increase in the index of "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" is due to rising prices of products such as millet (+0.7%), ground corn (+3.1%), herring (+13.9%), salt herring (+3.0%), cod (+3.6%), eggs (+1.4%), edible oil (+0.4%), banana (+2.1%), green peas (+1.1%), dry peas (+5.0%), malanga (+4.9%), cassava (+2.5%), breadfruit (+2.5 %) and cocoa powder (+5.2%). By cons, a downward trend was observed in rice prices (-0.6%), wheat flour (-0.5%), spaghetti (-0.3%), yam (-2.8%) and orange (-4.7%). The increase in the index of "Health" is related to the increase in drug prices (+0.2%), fees paid to doctors (+0.5%) and hospitalization (+0.3%). Variation in % compared to October : Metropolitan Area (comprising the cities of Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets) : +0.4%, remains West (includes the departments of South-East and West not included in the metropolitan area of PAP) : +1.4% Northern Region (comprising the departments of the North, Northeast and Northwest) +0.9% The southern region (comprising the departments of the South and Nippes Grande'Anse +1.5% The transversal region (comprising the departments of Centre and the Artibonite) +1.0% HL/ HaitiLibre
