Haiti - Religion : «The haitian Man must reborn» (dixit Mgr Yves-Marie Péan)
This Tuesday, January 1, 2013, 209th anniversary of Haiti's independence, Mgr Yves-Marie Pean Bishop of Gonaïves, pronounced the "Te Deum" in the Cathedral St. Charles Borromée of Gonaïves. During the "Te Deum", the Bishop of Gonaïves, transmitted his wishes, his vision of today and tomorrow and offered to the Haitian people, the essential tips to walk on the path of a new Haiti, a new haitian Man.

"Te Deum" of Mgr Yves-Marie Pean, Bishop of Gonaïves (excerpts)

"[...] I would like to express to you all my sincere wishes. I send them to those responsible of the country, members of the Government and especially the President, the First Lady and the Prime Minister, and all my faithful [...] and the entire people of Haiti, that the Lord in his mercy bless you and keep you. Let him shine on you, his face [...] that it gives you peace, they are the dearest wishes, I hasten to send you all [...] I wish you from the bottom of my heart, a year of peace, health and love a year of serenity, forgiveness and reconciliation, a year of courage and perseverance in the effort ; a year of improvement of the quality of life ; a year full of blessings and in consolations of all kinds...

[...] We have no control over the nature and world events, but each one is called to do his best to ensure more success in our individual and collective existence. Institutions, officials at the highest level, often seize this opportunity [1 January] to do of it an evaluation day and of deep reflection to see where we are, in order to lead not only to new provisions, but also to look to the future with much more serenity, more promising prospects of promising future with more hope, determination and courage to provide a realistic and positive content, a new springtime for ourselves, for our offspring, our families and our entire country [...]

[...] We think, and we pray especially today for the wounded of life for the unemployed, the disabled, the sick, the various victims of earthquakes, hurricanes and floods at repetitions, for people still living under tents or under tarpaulins, youth worried about their future, the poor of all kinds. This time we are experiencing is a real time-chaos, a time of grace [...]

January 1, 2013 for us is also a day of fraternization a day of great conviviality. Conviviality that we want to extend in all our families across our country, there are many indeed the Haitians brothers and sisters to come from abroad in Haiti or across the country, crisscrossing hills and valleys, plains and rivers on foot, horse, donkey or vehicle, in order to come and take a 'family bath' [...] it's the tradition of coming drink pumpkin soup, means that we carry within ourselves, Haitian from everywhere, this desire for solidarity, communion, in short this family spirit [...]

[...] In combat tenacious of life, that the Haitian people for so long leads, to the emergence of a society of greater freedom, justice and solidarity, the same people continually oscillates between of periods of great joy and deep sadness, between hope and fear, between trust and disillusioned and that is understandable, because too much of Haiti are tormented by hunger and poverty, too many fathers of families are unemployment, too many mothers are without resources, too many innocent children are sick and poorly nourished and too young, have no future and have only a hope in the humiliating flight abroad.

Too numerous still are those of our compatriots who have no access to safe drinking water or adequate housing, nor to education and whose living conditions are incompatible with the word of Scripture, that man was created to the image and the likeness of God and, that the Man is the clearest proof of the presence of God among us. While that Man and especially the Haitian man is called to properly manage his time to make advance his country, the Haitian man is called als oto organize and structure its space, its environment and land, according to its requirements and needs of today and tomorrow in the communities where it operates.

A people who work, putting his own, investing on a daily basis its potential and skills, can it hope for a better future that is being built ? But if the same people living in the wait and the nonchalance, it was no longer able to expect anything of himself, it will wait slavishly all of others, it will eventually gradually destroying its personality and even its identity. If it separate of faculties, that God give him and goes to the 'trailer' of another who thinks for himself, decides for him, plans for him too, it will become the architect of his own misfortune. If it does not control its social and historical heritage, its cultural and religious heritage, natural resources, if it abdicates its autonomy under the dicta aven of another, it will participate in its own fall.

[...] We are called to assume our responsibility, by taking care of our present in a manner determined, with our future, with wise and intelligent planning options, in view of our autonomy. To achieve this national ownership, there are requirements to be met, first the good governance. Good governance going in the direction of the common good [...] increasing poverty and the high cost of living, food insecurity, social, political, psychological and physical degradation of living together and the environment, decay values, fear of the future, unemployment and all kinds of injustice, are all the result of bad governance to which we must put a end. It is a plague endemic that has long marked miserably our society, because it attacks all the layers and is found at all levels of responsibility.

We also need a climate of dialogue, in the truth of overflow, of reconciliation, tolerance, social cohesion, cooperation, dignity and respect, all that contribute to the social and political stability, all that contribute to the peace.

Peace is not a dream, not a utopia, peace is possible, we can achieve it with the grace of God.

[...] These days, more and more, and fortunately, an awareness is there, which leads us to understand that the problem in Haiti, in addition to being what it is, is a problem of Man. Indeed the haitian Man must reborn, the Haitian man must continually renew, recover like in a mold to become a new Man, animated by love, justice, harmony, peace and mutual aid, self-consciousness, both individual and collective and brought to realize, the need to break with a past of disrespect, disregard of rules of general disorder, indiscipline, selfishness and vanity. We must invest fully, so that our life can become a realty and grow in humanity [...]

[...] Currently, it is necessary to recognize it and say it with a loud and ineligible voice, that the people need to work, we must therefore create jobs, of opportunities for young people, for the unemployed, for fathers and mothers. We must put our people back to work, we must also encourage agriculture, further this effort, we need to encourage local production, small and medium enterprises. It is also necessary to lead to production companies and of transformation. We need to create wealth, our stomach should not depend continuously on the outside, of other, we import too many things and we export too little. We have to take action, sometimes unpopular, to protect us from ourselves and protect our people [...]"
