Haiti - Social : Our Little Brothers and Sisters do an amazing job ! 13/01/2013 10:07:08 The Rava Foundation, together with Father Rick Frechette - Director of NPFS Haiti, in memory of the third anniversary of the 2010 earthquake will pay homage to the victims of the earthquake. This recogniti sends a message of hope and a renewed appeal to aid the children of Haiti who remain in desperate need of urgent medical care, housing, nutrition and a basic education. Thursday the First Lady Sophia Martelly visited NPFS St Damien Children's Hospital, structure of operational excellence in Tabarre since 2006, and the centre of international relief efforts after January 12. She visited the wards and talked with young patients, especially those hospitalized in the oncology ward, and with the staff of the Maternity and Neonatology departments, built after the earthquake and a referral center for the whole country (5,000 mothers and their babies taken care of each year). Madame Martelly also visited the articulated service system (kitchen, laundry service, pharmacy, labs) that allows the Saint Damien to provide free, state of the art medical assistance to 80,000 children a year, from kitchens to laundry services, and at the end of the visit said: "I was deeply moved to see our children taken care of in a healthy, safe and friendly environment where a competent and conscientious staff provide high quality healthcare. This has revived in me the belief that a health system that can meet the needs of the entire population of Haiti is possible. The St.Damien Hospital is an example to be followed by all those who want to help the vulnerable population of Haiti," declared Sophia Martelly at the end of her visit. Among the new achievements in 2012 at the St.Damien, the opening of a blood bank, the enlargement of the pharmacy with a galenic laboratory, two new surgery rooms in the maternity ward. The First Lady also visited visited Kay Germaine - the rehabilitation center for disabled children and Francisville, that produces goods and provides professional training in its bakery, pasta factory , tailoring unit, printing center, laboratory of peanut butter, carpentry workshop, brick factory. On January 11th, the St. Anne Baby House and kindergarten were inaugurated. The new baby house is the home to 37 children aged from 0 - 5 years. The kindergarten was completed to care for 200 children who will attend from the orphanage and the surrounding tent cities. Over the last 12 months, in addition to the growth and consolidation of existing projects, NPFS and Fondazione Rava have developed new initiatives to help Haitians "help themselves":
