Haiti - Social : Regularization of 1,000 Haitian workers in DR... 27/01/2013 10:58:53 Recall that 1.080 Haitian workers in the Dominican plantations, were forbidden to return to the Dominican Republic, after the holiday season in Haiti. This ban would have for origin, the absence of identification document and conflicting information of Dominican migration services, who claimed that the Haitians did not work in the Dominican Republic. Thursday, January 11, following an agreement between the two neighboring nations, the Haitian government was committed to provide birth certificates and national identity cards to more than 800 people gathered in the Migrants Workers Solidarity Association of Northeast (ASOMILIN) and to facilitate the renewal of visa for the 280 other workers, passport holders whose visas had expired. According to Mr. Taveras, a thousand workers have been temporarily registered and 900 cases are currently under study. He blames the Haitian Government, for the slowness of the process, which could take 15 to 20 days, due to delays in the delivery of identity papers and haitian passports required...
