Haiti - Social : The Petit-Goâviens, that have marked the history of Haiti
During a conference-debate, which was held in Petit-Goâve on the Petit-Goâviens which have marked the history by putting positive acts, the historian Michel Soukar declared at the outset "The men make history. God created them free, but freedom is a poisoned gift. It can be used for good or evil. It is up to us to take charge of our destiny. Our history is not written in advance. We do not build a country from the faults of others, but from the great men and good examples. We need to cultivate the memory of our men of the past to learn how to do what is good, to have good models, to encourage young people to take an interest in the beautiful, the good things.

There is no pride in the art of honoring our citizens, but we must inspire of them to act well."


According to Michel Soukar, the city of Petit-Goâve has produced fighters, politicians, writers, artists extraordinary among them, it is necessary to quote : Minos Bijoux, Colbert Bonhomme, Charles Dubay, Eustache Fremont, Paul Lochard, Jean Rene Jerome, Faustin Soulouque, Andre Juste Borno Lamarre.

Minos Bijoux :
Defender of Petit-Goâve at the civil war in 1902, organizer of guerrilla warfare against the American occupiers (1915) and winner of the American Captain Keller, Minos Bijoux is known internationally for having participated in the peasant uprising in Cuba, to the International Brigade of volunteers in Spain, to the war of France against Germany and its participation in the Chinese revolution of 1949 in the Chinese army led by Mao. Minos Bijoux died in France at age 87. His struggles against dictatorships make of him a sort of early "Che Guevara".

Colbert Bonhomme :
Activist lawyer and founder of the College that bears his name, he was Judge at the Civil Court of Port-au-Prince, investigating judge, Judge at the Court of Appeal and to the Court of Cassation. Renowned jurist, was a convinced patriot, a humanist educated which was also Ambassador to the Vatican and England.

Charles Dubay :
Deputy, writer and brilliant lawyer he maintained strong relationships with people from all backgrounds.

Eustache Fremont :
Born in Petit-Goâve in 1781 of freedman Father, Eustache Fremont participated in the War of Independence and performs several missions in France. Services rendered by Colonel Fremont, earned him October 6, 1830, the title of Senator of the Republic.

Paul Lochard :
Professor of career, poet, engraver, moralist, renowned writer and lecturer Paul Lochard was of a probity admiringly, he incarnated the good and the ideal of beauty.

Faustin Soulouque :
Faustin Soulouque, nationalist exemplary, dignified man, participated in the war of independence of Haiti. He was the first Head of State to marry in the National Palace, Elected President in 1847, he was proclaimed emperor of Haiti in 1849 by the Parliament and reigned during 10 years on Haiti.

Andre Juste Borno Lamarre :
Native army soldier and of the war of independence, brave man, defender of Môle Saint-Nicolas, he drove the French out of Petit-Goâve. He was Colonel of the 25th demi-brigade and Senator in 1908.
