Haiti - Economy : The Senate vote against the Finance Bill 2013-2014 25/09/2013 16:18:35
Tuesday, to 6 days of the constitutional deadline, the report of the Senate Committee "Economy and Finance", which of recommended amendments to the Finance Bill 2013 to 2014, law already passed by the Lower House on August 7, was rejected in Senate by 7 votes against, 6 for and 4 abstentions.
Remember that this finance law had been prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the basis of the broad guidelines of the Strategic Development Plan of Haiti, in order to be an instrument of economic growth and a shield for the economy of SMEs Haitian.
However, new taxes and the increase in some customs tariffs had generated strong reactions among the population, socio-economic actors and the political opposition.
With this rejection in the Senate, a new state budget, certainly can not be voted on before the deadline of 30 September 2013. For Senator Privert, we are heading towards the renewal of the budget of the previous year, pending the adoption of a new budget law in the same terms by both houses...
