Haiti - Social : 6-month special intervention plan against extreme poverty 17/11/2013 11:01:04 This Social Plan, which specifically targets mothers whose living conditions are very precarious, will extend over a period of 6 months (November 2013-April 2014). With other stakeholders, the office of Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, the Delegate Minister for human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, is finalizing the planning for a intervention grouped in twelve disadvantaged neighborhoods in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. In this social action plan, the Government provides, in each target area, the integration of more than a hundred mothers in the "Ti Manman Cheri" program, the establishment of 5 literacy classes in neighborhood schools and special support for people with disabilities. It is also planned to install 12 solar streetlights in each neighborhood, to rehabilitate some damaged houses and implement an urban agriculture program. Fixed or mobile food restaurants will be available to the most needy, alongside other interventions under this program. In six months, this special intervention plan, plans to reach 50,000 heads of households from 50 disadvantaged neighborhoods. By using concrete measures, the Government seeks to significantly reduce the number of people suffering from hunger, enroll a maximum number of children and make accessible health care to the residents of these neighborhoods. Of income-generating activities will also be deployed in insecure areas of cities across the country during the holiday season. HL/ HaitiLibre
