Haiti - Economy : Increase of 6,4% of the Index of Industrial Production 05/12/2013 11:14:28 The quarterly increase results from an evolution contrasted of the different industries. Indeed, the manufacturing of food products, wood, chemical and metallurgical works grew respectively by 6.5%, 12.6%, 9.4% and 19.2%, by cons, textiles (-12.6%), mineral products nonmetallic (-5.8%) showed a downward trend. Energy : Decrease 7.5% for the index of production of electrical energy yoy and 8.3% compared to the previous quarter. This cons performance at the level of quarter is mainly due to the negative evolution of thermal generation (-14.1%), as hydroelectric production grew 54.0%. Consumption billed, for its part, reflected an upward trend (2.6%) compared to the previous quarter. Construction : Increase of 15.7% in the index of construction activity yoy and 6.9% compared to the previous quarter. This recorded increase at the level of sector is consistent with the increase in imports of building materials including iron, cement and construction of prefabricated. This performance is lso reflected in an increase of 6.7% for the index of number of employees in construction. Internal trade : Increase of 14.2% in the index of business activity yoy and 4.3% from the previous quarter. Positive quarterly change in nominal value is due to a good performance of all industries in this sector, including trade of motor vehicles (2.2%), wholesale food products (7.1%), appliances, articles and household equipment (2.8%) and hardware (7.7%). Consumer Prices : Increase of 5.4% in the index of consumer prices yoy and 0.5% compared to the previous quarter. The quarterly increase was due to the increase in almost all areas of expenditure, particularly housing, Clothing, Other Goods and Services, Furniture, Health, which rose by 1.6%, 1.6%, 1.3%, 0.9% and 0.9%. The price index of agricultural products, meanwhile, rose 9.2% yoy and has contracted of 0.2% compared to the previous quarter. Foreign Trade : Decline in the index of the average value of imports by 2.1% yoy and 2.6% compared to last quarter. For its part, the index of the total value has risen by 2.9% yoy and declined 4.7% from the previous quarter, thus causing an increase in the quantum of 5.1% yoy and 2.1% decline at the level of the quarter.
