Recall that a Special intervention plan against extreme poverty plan was launched in November 2013 by the Fund of Economic and Social Assistance (FAES) in coordination with the office of the Delegate Minister for human rights and the fight against extreme poverty https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9889-haiti-social-6-month-special-intervention-plan-against-extreme-poverty.html . This plan has for main objective to accompany, over a period of 6 months, 50,000 heads of families from 50 disadvantaged neighborhoods to empower them as actors in the fight against extreme poverty. This program is divided into several components: distribution of baskets of solidarity, bonds of solidarity, cleaning and/or sanitation of neighborhoods, installation of solar streetlights, implementation of literacy classes, installation of a community restaurant in each target neighborhood integration of 100 mothers in one or two schools in each neighborhood etc...

In this holiday season, this special intervention plan continues in the precarious neighborhoods of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, where already several thousand heads of households have benefited from this program social

Throughout this week before Christmas, distributions of baskets of solidarity are provided in the popular neighborhoods targeted. Wednesday in Solino and Martissant nearly 1,000 heads of families received baskets of solidarity. In addition to the distribution of baskets of solidarity in Cité Soleil, over 3,000 bonds of solidarity were given to mothers. Other areas will be affected during the month of December, according to the distribution schedule prepared by the FAES, together with representatives of neighborhoods. In some areas, steps are already being taken to facilitate the opening before December 31, of community restaurants. In other areas, the establishment of another type of restaurant called "Resto Pèp" is planned by FAES.

By April 2014, 50 community restaurants will be implemented in targeted neighborhoods to combat hunger, 2,500 dilapidated houses will be repaired and 5,000 new mothers will be integrated into the cash transfer component of "Ti Manman Cheri" program. Through this Special intervention plan the Government seeks to reduce extreme poverty with an integrated community approach among the most vulnerable in fighting illiteracy, hunger, and social exclusion.

In addition, the Office of the Minister of Energy Security is working to improve the lighting of the metropolitan area and repair works of streetlights broken is underway.
