Haiti - Politic : Results 2013 and perspectives 2014 for ONI
Thursday, Jean Baptiste Saint Cyr, the Director General of the National Office of Identification (ONI), gave an update on the activities of the ONI in 2013, on the measures taken for the upcoming elections and perspectives for 2014. He highlighted the efforts made ​​in 2013, by his institution to make functional its 142 offices across the country to offer a better service to the public.

He also emphasized the important work of purification of databases and the production of National Identity Cards (CIN), noting that in 2013 more than 11,000 names of deceased persons had been removed from the databases and information of nearly 10,000 CIN had been corrected.

Concerning the perspectives for 2014, an electoral year particularly busy for the ONI, the Director General noted that thanks to funding from Venezuela, currently ONI had 700 registration equipment whose 600 will be deployed throughout the country and 100 in Haiti Consulates abroad.

Furthermore, it revealed that a contingency plan was developed with the assistance of the Organization of American States (OAS), to modernize the ONI, noting that an envelope of $2.5 million, funded by Japan ($ 1 million), Switzerland ($ 1 million) and U.S. $ 500,000 from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will enable the successful implementation of this plan.
