Haiti - Diplomacy : 110th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Cuba

Earlier this week in Havana (Cuba), during a ceremony commemorating the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Cuba, headed by Cuban Vice-Chancellor Rogelio Sierra and Manuel Martínez Montes de Oca, Vice-Minister of Communications, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Haiti to Cuba, Jean Victor Geneus, expressed his gratitude for the selfless help offered by Cuba to his country. The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the organizations and institutions of the Cuban government and members of the diplomatic corps of Caribbean accredited in Havana.

The Ambassador of Haiti, recalled that the two countries share the history, culture and a strong friendship that dates back to the 19th century, after independence (in 1804), when Haiti cooperated to the struggles for the emancipation of the region. He noted that despite the economic difficulties, Cuba maintains since 1998 the presence of medical staff in the country and that hundreds of young Haitians in Cuba have graduated in medicine and other fields. Noting that Cuba's commitment to Haiti is also expressed in the development of key sectors such as agriculture, steel industry, education and sports.

For his part, Vice-Chancellor Rogelio Sierra recalled that the rebellion of Haitians, there are two centuries, encouraged the pro-independence sentiment of Cubans, who have found refuge and support in this country and ratified the commitment to maintain cooperation with Haiti.

During this ceremony, a stamp commemorating the 110th anniversary of diplomatic relations, of a value of 3 pesos, representing the national coat of arms of Cuba and Haiti on the maps of the two countries, symbols of geographical proximity and history was officially canceled.
