Haiti - Politic : Visit of a delegation of the Commission of the Inter-Parliamentary Union 28/02/2014 10:13:09
On Thursday, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, accompanied of Senator Wenceslass Lambert, of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and of Deputy of Saint Marc, Altesse Toussaint, the new Chairman of the Presidential majority bloc in the Lower House, received a delegation of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Union as well as members of the United Nations Parliamentary Secretariat. The Commission composed of parliamentarians from Finland, Mexico, Canada, France and Burkina Faso has already visited several countries in Asia and Africa, but this is the first visit she performed in the region, particularly in Haiti. Chaired by the Deputy of Burkina Faso, Mélégué Traoé, members of the delegation was able to to inform on the progress in Haiti in various fields, four years after the earthquake of January 12, 2010. Some members of the delegation, who visited Haiti for the first time, did not hide their surprise at the progress observed in the country despite the limited resources of Haiti. Prime Minister Lamothe, took stock of the achievements of his Government for the establishment of a rule of law based on the understanding and participation of all, especially in its relations with other bodies of the state. He stressed that the ongoing fight against corruption and money laundering and modernization of the business environment, among others, were part of more than forty bills tabled in Parliament. He took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of his Government to hold elections in 2014.
For their part, members of the Commission reiterated to the Prime Minister Lamothe, their willingness to support democracy in Haiti. HL/ HaitiLibre
