Haiti - Politic : 2nd postponement of the third binational meeting

The 3rd meeting of the Joint High Level Commission, between the Haitian and Dominican authorities which had to be held initially in Jacmel the first week of March,

postponed by mutual agreement at Thursday, March 20 due to the visit of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in the Dominican Republic [which did not take place because the case of Ukraine], has been postponed for the second time, to April 8, informed the Haitian Governmentin a statement that specifies :

"The Government of the Republic continues to believe that this exchanges space between the two countries is a viable framework enabling them to deal with their differences in order to achieve strict compliance with the agreements signed during the talks.

The Haitian Government that renews its commitment to work for the well-being of the population, calls on all sectors of national life to support the efforts of the Haitian government to put the country permanently on the road to sustainable development."

Without however giving the reasons of this postponement...

However, in the Dominican press, we learned that according to statements of Kedler Agustin spokesman of the Primature, the meeting was postponed due to non-compliance with the commitments made by the Dominican Republic, during the second meeting (February 7) to file on February 27, a bill for the naturalization of Dominicans of Haitian descent born in the Dominican territory concerned by the judgment 168-13 of Constitutional Tribunal (TC) Dominican. In addition, Kedler Agustin also declared as additional reason, that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) had recently conditioned its participation as an observer in the binational dialogue, to the presentation of this bill...
