Haiti - Education : Launch of the 6th national literacy campaign
This Friday, March 21, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe will launch in Bernagousse, communal section of Pestel, the 6th national literacy campaign, which will be held under the theme "Aprann li ak ekri pou ayiti ka vanse pi lwen".

This campaign which is the result of several planning meetings organized by the Joint Steering Committee, aims to alphabetize 370,000 people over a period of 15 months across the country with a concentration of activities in areas affected by special Government plans. 12,350 monitors and 1,500 supervisors are among others, the human resources mobilized for this campaign, financed to the tune of 3 million U.S. dollars from the Petrocaribe funds.

The Steering Committee was set up under the aegis of the Prime Minister Lamothe, in order to accompany the Secretary of State for Literacy in the process of implementation of this vast campaign. This committee is composed of Mrs. Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, Vanneur Pierre, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, of Oswald Thimoléon, Secretary of State for Literacy, Ricardo Garcia Napoles, Cuban ambassador in Haiti, of a member of the Office of the Prime Minister and two Cuban technicians.

Under the terms of reference, the Steering Committee will: implement initiatives for the launch of the national literacy campaign, make recommendations on strategic issues including objectives and priorities considered important for the implementation campaign, identify and mobilize people to literate so that they can participate in the program and complete the cycle until the certificate and ensure the implementation of effective communication campaign, capable of reaching targeted populations.

This campaign aims the total elimination of illiteracy in the intervention areas after the deadline set; give rise to a dynamic of mutual assistance in all spheres of national life and in all social strata of the country in order to have a population better able to manage its affairs, able to create more wealth and more effective citizen participation to support the social reconstruction of the country.
