Haiti - Reconstruction : Important partnership between the City of Marigot and the European Union 06/04/2014 09:34:03
Based on the Commune Development Plan, this initiative will allow to improve the capacity of local authorities in order to make them more efficient in the delivery of public services to the population, to establish dialogue between different community stakeholders in the spirit of a participatory management of the development, improve the level of public services to the population and its access through inter alia, the implementation of five micro-projects: rehabilitation of rural roads, construction of a vocational training center, protection watersheds, support for activities related to the breeding and marketing of agricultural products. This initiative will allow, among others, to improve access to over 60,000 residents of the town of Marigot to basic services such as sanitation, urban safety and education, is very timely to strengthen local development initiatives, implemented earlier in Marigot. This project, which will extend over a period of 24 months, led by the city of Marigot, which falls under the EU support to the strengthening of local governance and decentralization, of the 11th European Fund development Fund (EDF) is one of the priority areas of cooperation between the European Union in Haiti. "This is a project hopeful for the town of Marigot that will strengthen the capacity of the Town Hall, the Boards of Directors of Communal Sections (CASEC) and Administrations of Communal Sections (ASEC). It will also contribute to improving the living conditions of the population marigotienne through access to basic services," said the mayor of the town, Midy Fifon Myrthil. For his part, Ambassador of the European Union in Haiti, Javier Nino Perez stated at the launch "Strengthening the capacity of local authorities remains essential to the pulse of development that is resulting from the base, anchored in the local socio-economic reality.
