Haiti - Health : President Martelly honors three personalities of the medical world in Haiti
Monday at the National Palace, as part of the celebration of World Health Day, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the First Lady, Sophia Martelly, decorated with Order of Honor and Merit, rank Commander, the Doctor in Medicine, Edith Dreyfuss Hudicourt, family physician, pathologist and first Haitian woman to graduate in medicine in Haiti and Jean William Pape, physician / researcher and head of GHESKIO Centre. The Physician / researcher Antoine Augustin, represented by his widow Yvette Edouard Augustine was also posthumously decorated to the Order of Honor and Merit, rank Knight.

The Head of State urged the Haitian population to consider these figures as models, examples of competence, people who were noted in the exercise of their profession and their publications. Stressing that "These eminent personalities were decorated for their contribution to the improvement of health care and medical research both in Haiti and abroad."

The ceremony took place in the presence of Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP), of Duly Brutus, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the diplomatic corps, members of organizations international and local working in the field of health in Haiti, as well as technical and financial partners of the Ministry of health.



This ceremony has a double symbolism: the celebration of World Health Day and the death of the precursor of the Independence of Haiti, the llustrious Toussaint Louverture who was renowned for his healing abilities," stressed the Minister Florence Duperval Guillaume
who took the opportunity to discuss some progress in the field of health in Haiti "The elimination of malaria throughout the country and better management of diseases such as lymphatic filariasis, cholera and HIV / AIDS, which reflect the willingness of the State to improve the system of health care." The minister Guillaume thanked MSPP partners, especially the Office of the First Lady for their unconditional commitment to improving health care across the country.

The wife of the Head of State, has warmly welcomed the various health professionals who carry out considerable work in this area and reiterated its commitment to always continue to support the population, which is entitled to health care of quality.
