Haiti - Education : Michaëlle Jean seen much progress in the Haitian education sector

Wednesday to the Primature, during her participation at the 28th Council of Government, Michaëlle Jean, the UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti, congratulated the Martelly administration for having thought to organize the Assises Nationales on Quality Education [which ends on Friday], inviting all sectors of national life to contribute to initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education. This reflection around he fundamental and higher education initiated by the Government, should help, according to Ms. Jean "to consistently improve the quality of education in Haiti."

She took the opportunity to commend the "unprecedented progress" achieved in the education sector, while calling on actors to redouble their efforts to overcome the obstacles before them and recalled the importance of quality education oriented in particular on a rigorous academic training essential to the development of human capital.

She also praised the deep convictions of President Martelly and Prime Minister Lamothe "who make education their concerns." Also, she believes that with education "citizens play a more prominent role in the process of national reconstruction."
