Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (March 2014)

The General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) for the month of March 2014, was marked by a certain acceleration in prices resulting primarily on a monthly basis by an increase in the Index of Consumer Prices (CPI) of +0.6% against +0.3% in February. However, year on year, inflation reached two consecutive months, the same rate of increase is 3.2%.

The monthly increase is the result of the evolution of almost all functions of consumption: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+0.7%), "Other Goods and Services" (+0.7%), "Clothing and Textiles Shoes "(+0.6%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Utilities" +0.9%), "Planning, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" and "Transport" (+0.3%) and "Health" (+0.4%).

The increase in "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" function results, among other in rice prices (+0.2%), ground corn (+0.5%), avocado (+3.6%), the kazoo, pumpkin (+1.2%), green peas and dry peas (+0.6%), mushroom (+1.3%), potatoes (+0.5%), the true tree (+1.1%), orange (+2.0%), grapefruit and chadèque (+3.5%) and lemon (+13.1%).

Note that the rise of the "Clothing and Textile Shoes" function comes particularly from the monthly price increases of costume, universal jacket (+2.1%), t-shirt man (+1.5%), pants for men (+0.5%), blouse (+0.7%), pants (+0.6%), dress (+1.0%), t-shirt women (+0.8%), tennis shoes (+0.5 %) and sandals (+0.9%).

At the origin of price increases of "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" function are the increases in the rental price of housing (+1.8%) and charcoal (+0.2%).

Among the products that have the greatest influence on the rise of "Health" function found the prescription glasses (+2.0%) and hospitalization costs (+1.7%).

Finally, inflationary pressures of the function "Other Goods and Services" is mainly due to price shampoo (+2.6%), powder toilet (+1.8%), the body cream (+3.8%) and other hair-care products (+1.2%).

General Price Index by Region (Variation on a month) :

Metropolitan Area: +0.8% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.5% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.6% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.6% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.4% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
