Haiti - Social : Workshop on the territorial collectivities

The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) launched Thursday a workshop of two days of work to harmonize efforts with local authorities. Many international institutions will including UNDP, USAID, the PDLH, the European Union and the MINUSTAH participated in this two-day workshop. They all reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting the local authorities.

During these two days, judges from different municipalities in the country and international partners of MICT exchange for harmonizing the actions of communities for their development.

Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, Minister of Interior and Local Authorities noted that "local authorities have an important role to play in development that can be done by harmonizing and combining their activities and also thanks to financial support, personnel and equipment from the international community [...] The Haitian population in particular victims of the earthquake of January 12, are entitled to quality basic services" is convinced that it is necessary to have a new vision as regards town and country planning.

For his part, David Odnel, deputy director of the Fonds d’Assistance Économique et Sociale (FAES), who attended the workshop, has reaffirmed his institution's commitment to supporting municipalities to establish mechanisms to promote development and local authorities in preparing their development plan.
