Haiti - Agriculture : Japan donated $3M as fertilizer
Wednesday, Haiti has proceeded to the signature with Japan, of a grant agreement by exchange of notes for disadvantaged farmers. This grant amounting to approximately $3 million as fertilizer, is part of the Support Project to food security and demonstrates of the good cooperation between the two countries.

Katsuyoshi Tamura, acting Chargé d'Affaires of Japan in Haiti, said that his country was aware of the urgency to increase agricultural production, given the difficult situation in Haiti. He said that the fertilizer given to Haiti, will be sold in Haiti to enable the country to establish a fund to finance various projects, particularly in terms of health and education infrastructure.

Duly Brutus, the Minister of Foreign Affair thanked the Japanese Government for this generous donation, noting that the Government, farmers and the population will benefit from the impact of this agreement, which will contribute to strengthening the capacity of farmers to increase agricultural production and reduce food dependency of Haiti and household poverty.

The Ministry of Agriculture will be responsible for the execution of this aid, said the head of the Ministry, Thomas Jacques, which estimated that this donation will help cover the needs of farmers in many parts of the country.
