Haiti - Politic : USA will contribute to elections to the tune of $10M

Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White went to the Senate to introduce them Thomas A. Shannon, the new Councillor of John F. Kerry, head of Haiti folder, which was on a 48-hours official visit to Haiti.

The realization of the next elections was at the center of discussions. Moreover, following the statements made yesterday by John F. Wednesday, Tom Shannon, accompanied among other by Ambassador Pamela White, Harry Adam, Executive Director of the Unit for Housing Construction and Public Buildings (UCLBP), Odnell David, Director of the Housing division of UCLBP, of the Adviser to the President Patrick Rouzier, several executives of the UCLBP and representatives of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American Red Cross, visited the zone of Canaan at the entrance of the National Road #1.

During this visit, the engineer Odnell David presented to the delegation an overview of the area of Canaan and highlighted the development constraints, challenges and investments already made by the population. He also stressed the Government's vision for the valuation of investments undertaken by households and the development of the zone.

During his short stay, Thomas A. Shannon also met with various authorities, including the President, Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie, Minister of Economy and Finance and Réginald Delva, the Minister of Interior.

Before leaving Haiti, the U.S. diplomat declared at the diplomatic lounge of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport "[...] President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry strongly support Haiti. They work to advance the country [...] We support the organization of elections and we are confident they will take place this year [...] there is no reason to consider another possibility [...]" recalling that the United States will contribute up to $10 million to finance the next elections in Haiti.
